Overview

Creating an escape room in Escape Room Studio is the first step toward running immersive games for your players. This guide will walk you through every aspect of room creation and initial configuration.

Prerequisites

Before creating your first escape room, make sure you have:

  • An active Escape Room Studio account

  • A team created (if you haven't already, see the Getting Started guide)

  • Permission to create rooms (Admin or Manager role)

  • An active subscription or trial period

Step 1: Navigate to Escape Rooms

Access the room management section:

  1. Log in to your Escape Room Studio dashboard

  2. Select your team from the team switcher (if you have multiple teams)

  3. Click on Escape Rooms in the sidebar navigation

  4. You'll see a list of all your existing rooms (or an empty state if this is your first)

Step 2: Create a New Room

Click the Create New Room button to open the creation dialog.

Step 3: Configure Room Details

Fill in the required information for your escape room:

Room Name

Enter a descriptive name for your escape room (e.g., 'The Mystery Mansion', 'Escape from Alcatraz', 'Time Machine Adventure'). This name will be visible to players and in your dashboard.

Description

Add an optional description that explains the theme, story, or experience. This helps team members understand what the room is about.

Duration

Set the game duration in minutes. Most escape rooms are 60 minutes, but you can set any duration from 1 to 180 minutes. This determines how long players have to complete the room.

Max Players

Specify the maximum number of players allowed in the room simultaneously. Common values are 4-8 players, but you can set it anywhere from 1 to 99 players.

Step 4: Choose Room Tier

You'll be asked to select a tier for this room. Tiers determine which features are available:

  • Essential: Basic features for standard escape room experiences

  • Pro: Advanced features including Image/Video clues, Custom Video assets

Step 5: Save Your Room

Once you've filled in all the details:

  1. Review your settings to ensure everything is correct

  2. Click Create Room to save

  3. Your new room will appear in your Escape Rooms list

Initial Setup After Creation

After creating your room, there are several important setup steps to complete:

Configure Room Settings

Click on your newly created room to access its settings. Here you can adjust timers, scoring, and other game parameters.

Create Puzzles

Add puzzles that players will need to solve. You can create puzzles directly in the console or prepare them beforehand. Each puzzle represents a challenge or milestone in your escape room.

Set Up Clues

Prepare hints and clues that you can give to players when they get stuck. Clues can be pre-written or created on-the-fly during games.

Test Your Room

Before running your first real game, test the room using the console. Start a test session and verify that all puzzles, timers, and features work as expected.

Configure Widgets

Customize the console layout by showing or hiding widgets like the timer, player list, puzzle stats, and sound controls.
